What to expect when starting therapy

Starting therapy is a big and positive step towards feeling better. It’s normal to feel nervous about what to expect, but knowing a bit about the process can help you feel more comfortable.

When you first reach out for therapy, you’ll usually fill out some forms and answer questions so your therapist can get to know you better. This helps them understand your needs and figure out how they can help. After that, in the first few sessions, your therapist will work with you to make a plan that fits your goals.

During regular sessions, which usually last about 30 to 60 minutes, you’ll talk about what’s on your mind in a safe and supportive space. Therapy takes time, and you and your therapist will work together to help you feel better. When the time comes to wrap up therapy, your therapist will help you feel ready to handle things on your own.

Remember, therapy is all about working together, and your participation is key to making progress.
